Construction is scheduled to begin June 2, 2025 and it is expected to be completed by September.
We are building a roundabout at the intersection of Hwy 63 (75th Street Northwest) and Olmsted Co. Rd. 112 to reduce crashes and improve driver safety in the area. This is an intersection with two highway-speed roadways. Stop signs control traffic on Co. Rd. 112. At times, drivers become impatient because of limited gaps in traffic. This has led to a sustained history of crashes.
Building a roundabout at the intersection will help reduce dangerous driving behavior and the number of crashes by improving traffic flow.
Benefits of a roundabout
Significantly reduces the risk of serious and fatal crashes
MnDOT and Olmsted County hosted a second in-person public meeting on Sept. 19 for community members, residents and local businesses to learn more about the roundabout that will be constructed at the intersection of Hwy 63 and Olmsted Co. Rd. 112. If you were unable to attend, you can view the handout and the display boards from the meeting. Full meeting details in our news feed below.
Community feedback summary, January 2024
Your feedback and answers to our questions were helpful. Here's a summary of your thoughts from our September outreach. Thank you for aiding our efforts.
Here's a quick snapshot of your thoughts:
More than half of respondents stated that they believe the new roundabout will resolve safety concerns at this intersection.
When asked why, many respondents answered that the new roundabout will improve safety by reducing speeds and eliminating the left turning movement.
Over 85% of respondents answered that they feel comfortable navigating roundabouts.
Many respondents are excited about the new intersection and would like it completed as soon as possible.
Those who stated they do not feel comfortable with navigating roundabouts also stated that they prefer a four-way stop or stoplights in the area.
Public meeting, Sept. 12, 2023
Thank you to everyone who attended the in-person public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 12 or provided their feedback through the survey.

Roundabouts are built to improve safety at intersections. Here’s what you should know before you drive, walk, or bicycle in the area.
Drivers
Slow down when approaching a roundabout.
Yield to vehicles already in the roundabout and merge into traffic when it’s safe.
Yield to pedestrians and cyclists in the crosswalk when entering and exiting the roundabout. It’s the law!
Continue through the roundabout until you reach your exit. Do not stop or pass other vehicles in the roundabout.
Exit the roundabout immediately if an emergency vehicle approaches, and then pull over. Do not stop in the roundabout.

Large Trucks and Deliveries
These roundabouts are designed to accommodate large equipment and trucks.
Give large trucks and other vehicles extra space in a roundabout.
Large trucks will be able to make all turns within the roundabout while utilizing the truck apron in the center of the roundabout if needed to accommodate longer loads.
Pedestrians/Cyclists
Cross only at crosswalks, and always stay on the designated walkways.
Never cross to the central island.
Cross the roundabout one approach at a time. Use the median island as a halfway point where you can check for approaching traffic.
