In 2029, MnDOT plans to resurface Hwy 61 in Duluth from the Lester River bridge to just past the Superior Street intersection. This project has been in the MnDOT Capital Highway Investment Plan (CHIP) since 2018. Engagement was tabled until now so it wouldn't be confused with the London Road project from 26th Avenue East to 60th Avenue East. This project includes studies at the Superior Street and Congdon Boulevard/Scenic 61 intersections, and improvements may be included at those intersections.

Benefits

  • Improve safety
  • Provide smoother road surface
  • Extend pavement life
  • Reduce maintenance upkeep and costs
  • Possible intersection improvements
