Project overview

MnDOT is studying Hwy 7/29 from Canton Ave/Co. Hwy 15 to 8th St, with a focus on the 1st St and 3rd St bridges over the highway. Through detailed review and public engagement, MnDOT is working to better understand how each bridge supports local travel and community connections, as well as how potential future changes could impact Montevideo’s transportation network for people walking, biking, rolling, and driving. The study will use these findings to develop recommendations for future bridge projects.

The goals of the study are to:

  • Gather input from the local community and businesses who use the bridges and the surrounding area.
  • Identify safety, accessibility, and connectivity needs of people walking, biking, driving and using other forms of transportation.
  • Provide meaningful opportunities for feedback to Spanish-speaking community members.
  • Explain existing conditions, potential alternatives and project decisions throughout the study.
  • Use community feedback to inform bridge, roadway, pedestrian and bicycle recommendations.
