Hwy 25 Study - Monticello to Big Lake

Since last fall, MnDOT has been working on a comprehensive study of the Hwy 25 corridor in partnership with the cities of Monticello and Big Lake and Wright and Sherburne counties and Big Lake Township.  For more information about the project and the concept improvements, visit Hwy 25 Study - Monticello to Big Lake | Let's Talk Transportation - MnDOT

1.

The roundabout concept has the best safety improvement by:

  • Restricting left turns from 7th Street onto Highway 25 will be restricted.
  • Adding a roundabout at 4th Street that reduces corridor speeds and conflict points.
  • Expanding the westbound I-94 exit ramp would be expanded to feature an additional turn lane and also extend turn lane lengths.
  • Closing access at 3rd, 6th, and River Streets and adding a raised median on Highway 25.
  • Removing the existing signal at River Street and adding a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon to stop traffic and allow for pedestrians to cross the busy highway.

However, it costs slightly more and impacts additional properties. Is this concept acceptable or unacceptable to you?

2.

The signalized intersection has a lower safety benefit than the roundabout. However, it costs slightly less and has fewer property impacts.  The concept proposes:

  • Restricting left turns from 7th Street onto Highway 25.
  • Adding a signal at 4th Street to provide controlled crossing for vehicles and pedestrians.

Is this concept acceptable or unacceptable to you?
