We are conducting a comprehensive study of the Hwy 25 corridor in partnership with the cities of Monticello and Big Lake, along with Wright and Sherburne Counties. The goal is to understand the corridor’s needs, identify potential improvements, and develop a future vision. The study focuses on the segment of Hwy 25 stretching from School Boulevard in Monticello to Hwy 10 in Big Lake, about 4.5 miles.
The study will help inform the 2030 pavement preservation project planned from Hwy 25 to I-94 to Big Lake and guide future projects along the corridor.
Study overview
We are looking to accelerate near-term improvements in the project area that could address key concerns such as:
High traffic volumes and congestion
Walkability and bikeability
Closely spaced intersections and mid-block access
Access for people of all abilities
Particular focus areas for this study include:
Hwy 25/I-94 bridge and interchange
Signalized intersections at Seventh Street, Broadway Street, River Street, and CR 11/Park Boulevard
Westbound I-94 exit ramp to Hwy 25
Bike and pedestrian facilities into Big Lake
How this study differs from the Hwy 25 Area PEL study
This study is being coordinated with the Hwy 25 Area Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study led by Wright and Sherburne Counties. The goal of the PEL study is to create a long-term vision for cost-effective alternatives that address the primary needs of vehicle safety and mobility in the greater area.
