Mapleton is working to expand safe and convenient walking and bicycling options in town by creating an Active Transportation Master Plan. The plan will identify short- to long-term opportunities to advance active transportation in the city and identify the action items that will lead to implementation of the recommendations and ideas in the plan. The city will receive additional technical assistance to start implementing the active transportation action plan in spring of 2027.

This project is led by a local planning team that includes people from:

  • Mapleton City Council
  • Mapleton City Staff
  • Mapleton Parks Board
  • Mapleton Public Works
  • Greater Mankato Bike Walk Advocates
  • Region Nine Development Commission
  • MnDOT District 7
  • The Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota
  • Maple River Schools
  • Blue Earth County Public Health
  • Heritage Place Assisted Living

This Active Transportation Action Plan is funded through MnDOT’s Active Transportation Program.

To create a plan that works for Mapleton’s residents, we want to learn about the way you move today and how we might make walking, biking, and rolling (e.g. other mobility devices like scooters or wheelchairs) a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable option in the future.
