Project Update: November 2022

The Planning Committee consists of representatives from the City of Jackson, County, schools, and members of the Friends of the Jackson County Trails Committee. MnDOT funded this Trail Action Plan as part of the Minnesota Active Transportation Program.

Our team met in October to kick-off our planning process. We confirmed our planning process and schedule, and discussed the principles of active transportation planning. We also did a team visioning and goal-setting activity to guide the plan. Some key themes of the activity included:

• Connect to Parks!
• Expand recreational opportunities
• Showcase outdoor amenities and natural beauty
• Attract tourism
• Improve non-motorized connections in town
• Connect to businesses
• Create a family-friendly trail route
• Promote healthy lifestyles – both physical and mental
• Attract new residents

We also identified existing engagement activities already occurring in the Jackson area and ideas for effective ways to connect with people throughout our planning process. We are currently outlining the specific events and activities we will do to engage people in Jackson.
