MnDOT thanks the community for their engagement during the 2024-2025 study and development of this Hwy 24 project in Clearwater on the Let's Talk Transportation platform!
The Hwy 24 interchange at I-94 will be constructed between 179th St. to Ash St. in Clearwater. The project will include a new bridge, ramp accesses with roundabouts, sidewalks and a multi-use trail.
Although current funding only allows us to reconstruct the Hwy 24 interchange at I-94, MnDOT has evaluated the entire one-mile stretch of Hwy 24 through Clearwater,from Co. Rd. 7 to the Mississippi River.

Analysis will result in a selected preliminary design

This project is in partnership with the City of Clearwater and Wright County and will improve safety, traffic flow and access through Clearwater. Final design work will continue through 2025, with construction expected to begin in summer 2026 and wrap up by late fall 2027.

MnDOT will reconstruct the Hwy 24 bridge over I-94 between 179th St. and Ash St. in Clearwater, Wright County, in 2026-2027.
Build a new Hwy 24 bridge over I-94, southeast of the current bridge
Reconstruct Hwy 24 from Wright Co. Rd. 145 (179th St.) to Smith St.
Improve access and traffic flow with:
Two roundabouts at the I-94 westbound and eastbound ramps
A teardrop-style roundabout at Hwy 24 and Wright Co. Rd. 145
New road approaches at Ash St. and Nelson Dr.
Extend the multi-use trail and sidewalks between Co. Rd. 145 and Co. Rd. 75
Connect with Wright County’s roundabout project at Hwy 24 and Co. Rd. 7

The Clearwater City Council held a public hearing on Oct. 14 and approved the proposed Hwy 24 interchange project layout.
• MnDOT is in the design phase for the interchange project at Hwy 24 and Interstate 94.
• The city council also approved the roundabout project at Hwy 24 and Co. Rd. 7. The city, MnDOT and Wright County are seeking funding to construct the roundabout.
• The city did not approve the proposed roundabout at Hwy 24 and Co. Rd. 75. Discussions will continue to determine the next steps for this part of the project.
