Our portion of this project is limited to Hwy 197, but the City of Bemidji is also undergoing a redesign of Middle School Dr and Hannah Ave. Because these two projects are interrelated, we will refer to both.

2023 Resurfacing

There is a separate resurfacing project that will take place in September between Bemidji Ave and Hannah Ave.

    Roundabouts are designed to accommodate the vehicles that use them, so yes trucks will be able to make it through.

    For trucks that would be making a "left turn" at the intersection their trailers use the additional concrete pad on the inside of the circle called a "truck apron".

    By their design roundabouts slow down traffic as they travel through an intersection by using a curved entry. Since a vehicle is already slowing down, this can increase stop compliance for pedestrians.

    Another advantage is that a pedestrian only has to worry about vehicles coming from one direction of travel at a time, rather than having to focus on multiple lanes of traffic at once.
