The Coon Rapids Active Transportation Action Plan will build on the community’s ongoing efforts to increase miles of trails and sidewalks by identifying new opportunities to enhance and expand all active modes of transportation. The plan will identify gaps in Coon Rapids sidewalk, trails, and bicycle network and opportunities to safely connect those facilities to key community destinations such as schools, retail centers, transit stations, and open spaces. The final action plan will include a list of priority projects, phasing, and funding opportunities to efficiently implement strategies.

We need your help

We need your help identifying how we might make walking, biking, and rolling (e.g., other mobility devices like scooters and wheelchairs) a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable option in Coon Rapids. We welcome your input and look forward to our active transportation future.

The City of Coon Rapids would like to hear from you about the 121st Avenue NW demonstration project. Demonstration projects are temporary roadway projects that use low-cost materials to test changes to the street before potentially investing in longer term solutions.

    Project Goals:

    • Make it easier, safer and more enjoyable to walk, bike and roll to school
    • Create a calmer neighborhood street for users of all ages and abilities
    • Improve access to trails and other neighborhood destinations

The project will test various traffic calming measures to achieve these goals::

    • Bike lanes with painted buffer
    • Curb extensions and high visibility crosswalk markings at Olive Street
    • Curb extensions, high visibility crosswalk markings and pedestrian safety island at Sycamore Street
    • Median islands at Norway Street

Your responses will help us understand how well the project meets these goals. The survey should take about 5 minutes to complete. Your responses will remain confidential. We thank you for your time and feedback!
