The Chippewa County Parks and Trails Master Plan is complete! Thank you for your interest in this project.

We are working to expand safe and convenient walking and bicycling options in Chippewa County. The Plan will identify short- to long-term opportunities to advance active transportation.

We need your help

Help us learn about the way you move today and how we might make walking, biking, and rolling (e.g. other mobility devices like scooters, wheelchairs) a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable option in the future. We look forward to hearing from you!

This project is led by a coalition that includes people from Chippewa County, City of Granite Falls, City of Montevideo, City of Watson, City of Maynard, City of Clara City, City of Milan, Minnesota Trails Initiative, Countryside Public Health, TZD, County Park Board, Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development, and BikeMN. This Active Transportation Action Plan is funded through MnDOT’s Active Transportation Program.

We created a vision and set of goals to guide the future of active transportation in Chippewa County:

    Vision

Chippewa County has created an accessible, safe, and comfortable trail network to improve the health, mobility, and economic opportunity of its residents and businesses.

    Goals

    • Practical Planning: The plan is specific and realistic for the current resources and long-term goals.
    • Co-Created, Community-Centered: Residents, stakeholders, and businesses from all communities are actively involved in the decision-making process.
    • Safety: The trail network will be safe for pedestrians and bicyclists.
    • Placemaking: Chippewa County will have a destination trail network that attracts visitors and retains residents to bolster local businesses.
    • Equity: People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds will be able to comfortably use the trail network.
    • Connectivity: The trail network will connect Chippewa County’s communities and major destinations.
