FAQs

What is the purpose of a long range transportation plan?

Long range transportation plans (LRTPs) are periodically completed studies designed to evaluate regional transportation needs, align stakeholder values and priorities, understand funding opportunities and gaps, and engage the public in understanding its wants and desires.

Once an LRTP is complete, it will guide the region’s future transportation planning and projects.

What is a regional development organization (RDO)?

Minnesota’s 12 Regional Development Organizations (RDOs) are key partners in statewide transportation planning and programming. Each RDO works with MnDOT through an annual work program framework. This framework ensures statewide consistency while allowing for unique differences in regional transportation issues around Minnesota.

R5DC (Region 5) and ECRDC (Region 7E) are part of the Central Minnesota Area Transportation Partnership (ATP). ATPs recommend transportation investments for the State Transportation Improvement Program and Area Transportation Improvement Program and establish a framework to manage improvement programming.
