AABRN/Sears Site Active Transportation Plan

This project is led by a coalition that includes representatives of the Asian American Business Resilience Network (AABRN), City of St. Paul, and the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board (CAAPB). This Active Transportation Plan is funded through MnDOT’s Active Transportation Program.

The following vision and goals will guide the future of active transportation at the Sears site redevelopment:

Vision

A safe, sustainable, and equitable active transportation network that reconnects the Sears site, serves community mobility needs, and invites people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike, and roll within and around the Sears Redevelopment Site.

Goals

  • All Ages & Abilities: Develop a transportation network of convenient bikeways and sidewalks to ensure all have safe and accessible active mobility options.
  • Access and Connectivity: Create thoughtful and integrated community connections through a restorative network of bikeways, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, and connections to key transit systems.
  • Health & Well-being: Encourage healthy active lifestyles for future site users and local communities through safe and comfortable walkways and bikeways.
  • Sustainability and Climate Resilience: Reduce reliance on single occupancy vehicles and foster community resilience through walking, biking, and transit connections that integrate green stormwater infrastructure to enhance and protect natural systems
  • Partnership and Community Engagement: Engage the full diversity of surrounding communities to develop a plan that aligns with existing Frogtown and Rondo priorities and needs.
