View full-size mapWe are completing the preliminary design for the I-35/I-90 interchange corridor near Albert Lea. The design will improve safety and address aging bridges to provide a smoother, more effective travel experience for all who use it.
The I-35/I-90 interchange is an important crossroads for freight traffic and travelers. The eastbound and westbound bridges on I-90 were built in 1968 and need improvements soon. We plan to replace the two I-90 bridges and make some ramp improvements starting in 2030. We currently only have funding identified for this work.
This project recently moved from the corridor study phase to the preliminary design phase. In the previous phase, the project team developed a recommended alternative design for the corridor. In the current phase, the project team will refine this design with the help of public input as they reach final design and prepare for construction.
