We are planning improvements on Highway 16 in Houston.
Construction is expected to begin in 2031 with the following proposed improvements:
Reconstruct Highway 16
Improve drainage
Replace city sewer and water utilities
Replace bridge east of Houston (Bridge 95111)
Improve bike and pedestrian sidewalks, crossings and overall safety
This project follows MnDOT’s Complete Streets and Safe System approaches. The new design will better serve people walking, biking, driving and using mobility devices while improving overall safety.
Project timeline
Data collection and scoping: Summer 2026 to winter 2027
Preliminary design: Spring 2027 to spring 2029
Final design: Summer 2029 to fall 2030
Project letting: Oct. 23, 2030
We are planning to hold more public meetings: Winter 2027, summer 2027, spring/summer 2028 and fall/winter 2029.
